Weekend of Action - Treaty Principles Bill

In December 2024, we hosted a "Weekend of Action" in Pōneke to mobilize opposition against the abhorrent Treaty Principles Bill. The weekend featured submission-writing workshops, door-knocking, flyer dropping and community outreach events, including a market stall, all aimed at empowering residents to voice their concerns through formal submissions to Parliament. We relied on an incredible group of volunteers to make it all happen &U reach as many people as possible. The initiative was part of a broader national movement opposing the bill, which sought to redefine the foundational principles of the Treaty of Waitangi, undermining Māori rights and the Crown-Māori relationship.

The Weekend of Action galvanised community engagement, contributing to the unprecedented number of submissions and reinforcing the Pōneke's commitment to honoring Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
