Te Tiriti Community Hui

In October 2024, we hosted a community hui in Wellington focused on Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The event aimed to educate attendees about Te Tiriti, explore its significance across diverse communities, and mobilise collective action against the government's proposed Treaty Principles Bill.

The hui featured a panel consisting of Dr. Luke Fitzmaurice-Brown, lecturer at Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington, community advocate Tania Sawicki-Mead, Māori Ward Councillor Nīkau Wi-Neera & Asians Supporting Tino Rangatiratanga members Jess Ye and Nabilah Husna

Attendees engaged in discussions about the historical and contemporary relevance of Te Tiriti and its role in shaping a just and inclusive Aotearoa. The gathering fostered a sense of unity and commitment to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti in the face of legislative challenges & sought to organise our community towards opposition of the bill.
